Hello! I'm Simone Goldsmith. Currently based in Sydney (Australia), I'm working as a freelance associate producer for Channel 9 News.
I've been living in Tokyo (Japan) the last four years, completing a Media and Communications degree at Temple University, Japan Campus.
My passion is documentary film making, which so far has taken me to villages in rural Kazakhstan; garbage dumps and slums in Indonesia; garment factories in Bangladesh and landfill sites in India.
I'm currently in the post-production stage of a documentary for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on refugees living in Tokyo.
Urban Villages
Temple University, Japan Campus received a grant to produce mini documentaries on the most pressing issues facing Asia's fastest growing cities. I produced the Jakarta, Indonesia shoot which focused on water and sanitation. I also produced and directed the Bangladesh shoot on women and their livelihoods in Dhaka, as well as the Delhi shoot which investigated waste managament.
Global Lives Project
The Global Lives Project is a non-profit organisation that films 24 hours in the life of ten people around the world. The footage forms a video library of human experience, designed to show the diversity of the globe and to take you out of your world and into someone else's.
I produced the Kazakhstan shoot and coordinated the translation of the Lebanon and Japan shoots. In Feburary 2010, I attended GLP's World Premier event in San Francisco, USA and helped make the short video on the right for a symposium at Temple University, Japan Campus.

Refugees International Japan - Journey to Hope
I was in the design team for this innovative, inspirational and informative mobile exhibition. Freight containers, which were placed in and around Tokyo, were filled with displays that aim to give a taste of the refugee experience.
Wakai Politics X Pecha Kucha
A joint venture between Pecha Kucha and The Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies at Temple University, Japan Campus. I presented pictures and footage of the Urban Villages Project, a series of documentaries on issues facing Asia's fastest growing cities.
Fare for Fair, Tokyo
Assistant Coordinator of this charity event which featured delectable Middle Eastern fare; live entertainment by oriental dancers, musicians and DJs; a short day-in-the-life documentary of a Palestinian refugee girl in Shatila Refugee Camp in Beirut, and multimedia works made by youth during a digitial workshop. Proceeds went to Social Care, a non-profit Shatila- based organization committed to supporting refugees through education in the arts and sciences.
Pecha Kucha Tokyo
Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", Pecha Kucha rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. I presented about a digitzal workshop with Palestinian refugees in Beirut, Lebanon.
Lecture for Michigan State University
Presenter at an online lecture for the Communications and Asian Studies departments at Michigan State University. With Temple University, Japan Campus professors Ron Carr and Irene Herrera, we presented on journalism in Japan, the Global Lives Project and the Urban Villages Project.
